A veteran of the US wine industry, Jeff O'Neill founded Golden State Vintners in 1985, the sale of which 19 years later would provide cash to continue other vinous ventures. EVentually in 2004 he founded O'Neill Vintners & Distillers, a company dedicated to building brands through relationships with wineries around the US.
Agitator was a wine brand set up in 2018 as a range of wines that had been aged in casks that previously held Bourbon whiskies. It therefore seemed logical to switch things around and also release a Bourbon that had been influenced by wine barrels.
However, O'Neill don't actually produce the Bourbon themselves, instead sourcing it from a unnamed Kentucky distillery (which makes a nice change from MGP in Indiana). The mashbill is not exactly known but it is stated that there is a rye content of 21%, which is on the high side. Aging is for a 'minimum' of 2 years but again not divulged, before the whiskey is transported to California to finish in barrels that previously held Cabernet Sauvignon wine.
The high-rye element provides a pleasant sourdough notes that works beautifully with a clear influence of dark red wines - berries and a hint of tannin come through without being overbearing. It's very much as you might hope for in such a combination, well balanced and not hiding anything. It doesn't work quite as well in an Old Fashioned as I thought it might, but it's a belter in a Manhattan!

As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
