El Dorado
El Dorado 12yo 40% 70cl
The Diamond Distillery on the banks of the Demerara River in Guyana is the only distillery left in the country - following a consolidation of distilleries Diamond remains as a massive operation, producing huge amouns of Demerara rum on a daily basis. The general flavour profile tends to be a rum with notes of brown sugar - as one might expect - but also rich chocolate and hints of coffee.
The 12yo is a great sipping rum. There's a silky sweet note which makes it VERY easy drinking - I believe sugar is added to this which would account for that sweetness but this is not cloyingly sweet like some other mainstream rums that add sugar can be. It does have the backbone to work in cocktails but I would recommend using the 8yo for mixing, leaving the 12yo and 15yo to enjoy on their own.
