Founded in 2018 by three good friends - Robin Horrez, James Gurney and Phil Howarth (who would act as Master Distiller) - Hawkridge Distillery is situated in the small village of Compton in the middle of the North Wessex Downs, not quite equidistant between the triangle of Swindon, Oxford and Reading.
With a focus on Victorian recipes and featuring an incredibly distinctive bottle, the team produces a selection of gins, vodka and more recently a rum.
This particular gin is named a 'Victorian Botanical Tea Blend' but this is somewhat of a misnomer - and I understand they are looking at changing the name anyway - as there isn't actually any tea involved. It's based on the process of making a 'tea' by infusing botanicals in a liquid - in this case, a neutral base spirit. Those botanicals include wild blackcurrant leaves, lemon verbena, rosemary, rose petals and a small amount of honey from hives owned by the business.
The end result is a soft and slightly sweet gin which retains a gentle spiciness towards the finish thanks to juniper and coriander. It's eminently drinkable neat and will also work excellently with a slightly off-dry Vermouth, edging a Dry Martini towards that of a Vesper.

Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by Royal Mail. Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE WORKING TO A DEADLINE!

All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
