King's Ginger
King's Ginger Liqueur 29.9% 50cl
Created by Berry Bros & Rudd in 1903 for King Edward VII, King's Ginger Liqueur was previously available in a 75cl bottle at a whopping 41%. However, a recent rebranding in 2020 has brought production back to the UK - it was previously made by DeKuyper in the Netherlands - and reduced both the bottle size and also the ABV, to a more manageable 29.9%. Why? Because to be frank the higher strength version was simply too spicy and fire-y - the alcohol content dominated and it was difficult to pick out the natural ginger and zingy citrus notes. The new version is much more palatable neat, but still has enough kick to work with cocktails, and has arguably greater complexity of flavours. The kick of ginger is still there, but now it's not SO HOT, and the lemon element finally has a chance to join in the fun.
