Finland is the biggest consumer of rye in various forms in the world - indeed, rye bread can be considered their national dish. But when 5 friends shared a bottle of Rittenhouse Rye in a sauna they realised that the country didn't have a rye spirit to speak of. And so Kyro was born - with no distilling experience the friends contacted micro-distilleries around Europe to learn how best to make a quality spirit.
The Kyro distillery, located in an old dairy in a small town named Isokyro on the banks of the River Kyro, produced it's first run in 2014, with the company already having been established in 2012. Made with 100% rye, Kyro now produce a range of whiskies, gins and liqueurs.
Immediately on the nose there's a thwack of dark rye bread that's been lightly toasted. It's not smoky - the Wood Smoke version has that covered - but there is an earthiness akin to very-high-cocoa-content dark chocolate. Dried raisins and even a touch of sea salt are interwoven in a quite brilliant palate - it's deep and dark and amazing in a Manhattan!
As an added bonus, the bottle size increased from 50cl to 70cl in mid-2023 - and there was no change in price!

Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by Royal Mail. Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE WORKING TO A DEADLINE!

All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.
Items are NOT insured as standard, please contact us if you would like to discuss additional insurance for premium products.
All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
