Lagavulin 16yo is considered one of - if not THE - great Islay whiskies. It personifies the rugged beauty of the island, which an additional depth and complexity akin to the population who live there. But there are those that clamoured for a younger release featuring a wilder edge, so in turn brand owners Diageo released an annual limited edition cask strength version to keep them sated, as part of their regular Special Releases that come out towards the end of each calendar year.
The theme for the 2023 Special Release portfolio was 'Spirited Exchange' - a selection of bottlings inspired by the exchange of craft and culture around the globe. This allowed some more unusual cask types being used for finishing, and in this case the use of Don Julio Anejo Tequila casks were used to add a very different dimension to the classic briny, intense nature of the distillery spirit.
The Tequila cask influence is shown with some warming fruit notes of plum and damson, along with a slightly herbal, slightly floral thread weaving through the coastal smoke that is ever present. It's a fascinating release which paints Lagavulin in a new light while still keeping the core profile at heart.

Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
