Lucky Barrel
Lucky Barrel Speyside Cask Aged Red Blend Wine 14% 75cl
A fascinating collaboration between Michael Ballantyne of Storywood Tequila - who age or finish Tequila in barrels sourced from Scotland - and Gregor MacLane and Ramone Robertson of Huffmans, this sees a selection of three wines from France that are aged in barrels that previously held whiskies from Speyside. Whereas resting whisky in ex-wine barrels is a common occurence, it's very unusual to see it done the other way around!
The Red Blend is a marriage of Cabernet and Merlot that has plenty of dark fruit and spice going on, with the barrel aging adding a deeper note of prunes and stewed plums. It'll work brilliantly with a red meat dish - and is perfect to drink alongside haggis!
