MacNair’s is a boutique brand helmed by the celebrated team at The GlenAllachie Distillery. Established in 1857, Harvey MacNair & Company Limited was a Glasgow-based blending house created by Harvey MacNair, Victorian globetrotter, raconteur, and sometimes distiller. The brand was acquired by Pernod Ricard in 2005, but as the company focused its efforts on other well-known labels, MacNair’s eponymous blend 'MacNair’s Special Reserve' was relegated to the sidelines and finally discontinued. When Billy Walker, Graham Stevenson, and Trisha Savage purchased The GlenAllachie from Pernod Ricard in 2017, they also acquired the MacNair’s branding (along with the malt & grain blended label, White Heather).
Lum Reek, the MacNair’s lineup of heavily peated blends, has an origin story befitting Harvey MacNair’s playful legacy. The story goes as such: on an autumn evening after a day’s fishing, MacNair was sipping whisky in a simple stone shelter (near The GlenAllachie, no less) when a blocked chimney filled the room with smoke. MacNair was delighted with the taste the smoke imparted on his dram and so inspired him to create a smoky whisky.
Billy Walker was also inspired to produce a modern interpretation of Lum Reek, using older stocks of GlenAllachie spirit married with Islay and Speyside malt whiskies to create a rich and peat-forward Blended Malt that is married for a further period in a combination of Oloroso Sherry, red wine and Virgin Oak barrels. Even at Cask Strength the rich fruitness come forward, with a deep, dark smoky thread weaving through the complex profile. There are hints of black treacle, espresso coffee and the charred top of a creme brulee - it's utterly delicious!
Lang may yer lum reek, translating quite literally to 'long may your chimney smoke' is a traditional Scottish way of wishing someone a long and healthy life.

Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by Royal Mail. Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE WORKING TO A DEADLINE!

All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
