Located just outside Bridlington on the East Coast of England, the Twisted Roots Distillery is the only producer of rum in East Yorkshire, and also one of the very few in the entire country actually making rum from scratch, as opposed to buying in spirit from the Caribbean.
Piers Moat founded the small distillery in 2016 and uses dehydrated sugar cane juice from Mauritius along with extremely long fermentation periods with Champagne yeast. The pot still also runs for around 18 hours at a lower temperature, meaning dilution with water is minimal and flavour complexity is maximised.
His Dark Rum was originally labelled as Spiced Rum, but Piers discovered that drinkers would more often describe it as a stright dark rum due to Piers not wanting to go overboard with the 'spiced' element. As a result, he rebranded as a 'Lightly Spiced' Dark Rum. This is the base of his latest creation, where he infuses the dark, molasses rich, treacle-y rum with honey from a nearby friend, who allows his bees to forage among fields of Yorkshire Bell Heather, producing a deep and fragrant honey.
Piers has added a LOT of honey to the rum, wanting to fully emphasise the naturatl sweetness. The intensity of the base rum means this still isn't overbearingly sweet, and there's a lovely silky texture in the mouth to boot. It's absolutely delicious!

Shipping rates are based on WEIGHT of goods - the total weight of your order will determine the cost of the shipping charge due to price banding imposed by Royal Mail. Orders weighing up to a max of 2kg will be charged £5.99, and orders weighing over 2kg will be charged £7.99. ANY PURCHASE OVER £150 WILL RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING.
PLEASE NOTE: The Spirit Specialist is CLOSED on Sundays and Mondays - all orders are collected by Royal Mail the day after they are packaged up. As such, if you place an order on a Saturday, Sunday or Monday, your order will be packaged up on the following Tuesday at re-opening, and then collected by Royal Mail on the Wednesday morning. PLEASE BEAR THIS IN MIND IF YOU ARE WORKING TO A DEADLINE!

All orders are sent on a Tracked service with Royal Mail, which provides a Tracking Number for you to follow its journey to your destination.

All products are securely packaged in Air-Shock bottle bags or frankly excessive amounts of bubble wrap for additional protection.
All goods must be examined at the time of delivery and any damages or shortage must be recorded on the relevant delivery acceptance forms with the delivery. Un-examined or un-checked goods that result in a subsequent claim outside of a 48 hour period will not be accepted. Queries relating to claims must be made within 48 hours of receiving the goods, otherwise claims cannot be guaranteed.
