    El Sueno is a brand created by Paul Hayes and Navindh Grewal, who had previously launched Vivir as a 100% Agave brand with excellent result. El Sueno is a type of Tequila known as 'mixto' - in which a minimum of 51% Blue Agave spirit is blended with a base spirit, normally made from molasses, to create a more affordable drink.

    Now, 'mixto' Tequila gets a bad reputation, mainly because dirt cheap Tequila is mixto and tends to taste bloody awful - essentially creating the reason you need to have lime and salt, as on it's own it's horrible stuff. But Hayes and Grewal wanted to come up with a mixto that would be enjoyable to drink while still being great value. The boom in Tequila recently is seeing a shortage of Blue Agave, as it takes on average 9 years to mature, and it can only be used once. So to ease the pressure on agave availability, the pair decided to work on a mixto brand.

    I'm a MASSIVE fan of coffee liqueurs, but it's so easy to either go way too sweet, or way to bitter. Now this is on the lighter side of a coffee liqueur, but the earthy notes of the Tequila base balance brilliantly with the coffee notes, and the level of sweetness is pretty much spot on. It'll make an excellent Espresso Martini with a twist!
