    The Boann Distillery, situated in County Meath, began distilling in December 2019. having been set up by the Cooney family, who already had 40 years of experience in distillation by that point.

    'The Whistler' is named in honour of Pat, the head of the family, who is regarded for his tuneful whisting while working hard to create high quality spirits.

    Pat's wife Marie has been a beekeeper for many years, so it seemed a no-brainer to combine whiskey produced by the family with the output from the bees - the Cooney family are also the 2nd largest producer of cider in Ireland, and the bees help keep the orchards pollinated.

    This liqueur is, to be frank, stunning. It's pure liquidised honeycomb - sweet and silky with hints of chocolate and vanilla. It's dangerously moreish and is a must-have if you've got friends coming round. The cocktail potential of this is off the charts - and it helps that the ABV is a chunky 33% which means there's still a good kick of whiskey coming through, stopping it becoming too sickly.
